Date: 2009may25
Language: bash

Q. How do I remove a filename's extension (aka suffix) in bash?

A. There are many ways to do it but this is pretty nice
and does not use external processes:

	#!/bin/sh
	FILE=hello.jpg
	NOEXT=${FILE%\.*}
	echo NOEXT=$NOEXT
