Browse - computer tips - what is packagekitd

Date: 2008jun25
OS: Linux

Q. What is that packagekitd program that's running on my system?
I didn't start it!

A. In RedHat/Fedora its part of the PackageKit package. The description
of that is:

PackageKit is a D-Bus abstraction layer that allows the session user
to manage packages in a secure way using a cross-distro,
	cross-architecture API.

The deamon, packagekitd, is started on demand when you run yum and it
stops after a while of non-use.
