Q.  How do I hide Samba's version number?

A.

In /etc/samba/smb.conf change

        server string = Samba Server Version %v

to

        server string = Samba Server

or you can even hide that it is Samba

        server string = Windows Vista

Save the changes and restart the service:

	/sbin/service smb restart
