Q. How do I make Android's email work with self-signed certificates?
When I select "TLS (always)" I am told "Setup could not finish. Unable to
open connection to server". I could select "TLS (if available)" but
that's not what I want.

A. As far as I can tell selecting "TLS (if available)" will use a self-signed
certificate. This is what my IMAP mailserver's log says when Android
check the mail:

	Jun 28 11:42:51 www dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<myuserid>, method=PLAIN, rip=192.168.1.1, lip=192.168.1.80, TLS
	Jun 28 11:44:57 www dovecot: IMAP(myuserid): Connection closed bytes=863/15292

As you can see it is using TLS.
So there is no need to install K-9 Mail or import your certificate as
other people have suggested.

I hope that Google improves the email app to let the user import self
signed certs when it encounters them.
